We're delighted to once again be screening films as part of the Purbeck Film Festival.
A spiritual, transcendent film filled with a delicate, profound sense of humanity, this freshly minted masterwork was the first Indian f ilm ever to win the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. It follows two women, Padha- a nurse who is torn when her estranged husband tries to re-connect and her roommate Anu, who is struggling to connect with her boyfriend amidst the bustle and frenzy of Mumbai. The two women travel outside the city to the coast to find both bliss and melancholy in the stunning Asian landscape. The director Payal Kapadia was initially a documentary film maker and with her steady, non-judgemental eye she has made a film that reveals through patient study and vibrant cinematography the luminescent magic and beauty in even the most ordinary of lives. We are very grateful to the BFI for granting us this screening as a preview.
